William Addis

Bio

William Addis, became Artistic Director of Bakerloo Theatre Project in 2003. William recently worked with playwright Adam Mathias to create Hamlet: What Dreams May Come, which was performed as part of Bakerloo's tenth season. He has directed Bakerloo’s productions of The Tempest, Macbeth, Antigone, Design for Living, and Love’s Labour’s Lost in Troy, NY, Twelfth Night or What You Will at the Round Lake Auditorium, Three Sisters at the Society Library of NY, The Antigone Project, The Shakespeare Project and The American Project at West Point, and several workshops and readings. His production of Three Sisters was performed at the Society LIbary of New York. 
In addition to his work with Bakerloo, William has worked as a director, educator and producer with a variety of companies, including The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, 12 Miles West Theatre Company, Appel Farm Arts and Music Center, Roundabout Theatre Company, and The Children’s Museum of Manhattan. He served as Education Director for Compass Rose Theatre Company, and created and served as coordinator of the Summer Theatre Odyssey. He directed the first high school production of the landmark play The Laramie Project and his work with high school students has been recognized by the Partnership for After School Education and the National Endowment of the Humanities.

Recent directing credits include Am I Blue and Shakespeare's R&J at Brooklyn College, Savage/Love and Spring Dance at Marymount Manhattan College, Through the Red for the Brooklyn Playwright's Collective, Round and Round the Night Park  Theatre for a New City and RUB at Paper Beats Rock. He teaches directing at Marymount Manhattan College and has also taught at Brooklyn College, Bronx Community College and Westtown School and mentors young directors at NYU's Playwrights Horizons School.

William is a native of Belleville, NJ and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. He holds a BA in theatre from Drew University and an MFA in Directing from Brooklyn College.
